How to Get to Positano by Bus, Ferry and Road:

Positano is a very popular tourist destination and each year thousands of visitors come to Positano and the Amalfi Coast during the summer vacations. The bus and ferry are the two most convenient transportation means although there are other ways to reach Positano.

By Air

The nearest airports to Positano are:

Naples Capodichino Airport – From Naples airport Curreri Viaggi operates ten daily shuttle services to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. See their website www.curreriviaggi.it. Travel time is about 90 minutes.
Salerno Costa D’Amalfi Airport in Pontecagnano, south of Salerno

By Train

The nearest railway stations to Positano are:

Napoli Centrale (Naples Central Railway Station) at Piazza Garibaldi. On the lower level of the station you can catch the Circumvesuviana local train to Sorrento. The Sorrento to Positano buses leave from the square in front of the Sorrento local train station.

By Bus

The SITA bus company runs a network of services covering the Amalfi Coast. SITA has regular services to Positano from Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, Vietri and Salerno. In terms of public transport, the bus provides easy connection to Positano, however bear in mind that it gets very crowded during the peak summer season and you may have to fight your way onto the bus for your return trip, or wait for the next run.

from Sorrento to Positano: This bus run is operated by SitaSud and departures are from Piazza Giovanni Battista de Curtis in Sorrento. The buses stop at Positano before taking off for Amalfi.

from Salerno to Positano: This service is run by SitaSud. Buses depart near the Salerno railway station in Via Vinciprova. Journey time is about 75 minutes. You can buy tickets from retail outlets. Remember to stamp your ticket when you board the bus.

Arriving in Positano by Bus

By Car

From the north – Get on the Autostrade A3 Napoli/Salerno. Leave the motorway at Castellammare di Stabia and follow the road signs to Penisola Sorrentina. When you reach Meta di Sorrento, follow the road signs to Positano -Costiera Amalfitana.
From the south – Take either route SS.163 Amalfitana or the Salerno/Napoli Autostrade. Leave the motorway at Castellammare di Stabia and follow the signs for Positano, as above.

Street parking is difficult in Positano, so if you’re driving, be sure to book a car parking spot in advance.

By Sea – Hydrofoils or Ferries

Between the months of April through September, when the weather is fine, Positano is well serviced by ferries and hydrofoils.

From Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi and other coastal harbours to Positano: Metrò del Mare provides regular services for this run. For fares and schedules, see their website www.metrodelmare.com.

From Salerno to Positano: Travelmar operates regular services for this route. For schedules and fares see their website www.travelmar.it.
